What are some good Go clients/servers?

I play Go on occasion. Here's what I've played on/heard of:

Goban - A nice little native Mac program that you can play against GnuGo with, or analyze SDF files with. It might also work with some online servers.

DragonGoServer.net - You can play correspondence games online here, no client required other than a web browser. Some people even play fast games on it. This is what I played on when I played regularly. I haven't been active on there for a year or so, though.

Kiseido Go Server (http://www.gokgs.com/) - I played on here once or twice, but they had a java client back then. Looks like they have a downloadable client on their web page.

Actually, I'll just link you to the Sensei's Library wiki. They have -all- sorts of resources for the Go junkie. http://senseis.xmp.net/ In particular, you can check out their entry on Go Servers: http://senseis.xmp.net/?GoServers

Have fun and good luck! :)

I removed my Samsung 470 SSD from an HP laptop that had Win 7 running. Trim was enabled automatically with Win 7. When I put it into my new Macbook Pro trim was not enabled. You can check by going into the Apple, then About, then More Info and finally into Serial ATA. When you scroll down you will see that trim is not enabled.( Without it, the SSD will fill up and slow down. Google it and see what it does). Groths.org had a Trim Enabler patch that worked perfectly. I downloaded it and clicked on it and it installed. When I went back into the Apple, etc I found that trim had been enabled. Kudos to Oskar. I dropped a couple of bucks on him from Paypal because I appreciate this kind of work. Maybe Apple will have trim enabled in the next OS, like Win7.

OSX is not affected the same way without trim. It may slightly improve overall performance but because the whole file structure is different TRIM is not nearly as essential on OSX. In fact, forum members have reported problems with SSD's after enabling TRIM.

I am definatly going so if anyone wants to meet up, I think there is a cafe (of sorts downstairs from the Apple Store with seating just outside it. We could all meet up there if anyone wants to. The seating is right in front of the photo place.

it will sure fix it if the kernel panics were caused by overheating, which is likely, i would give it a shot, if that doesnt fix it then you know that the problem lies somewhere else!

do you know what I have to type in google to find which one I would need to buy? I dunno what the name of the product is... thank you.

All I can say is, Made you look ;-)

Then the article served its purpose. Until advertisers stop paying for page views and start paying only for click throughs this click baiting crap will continue. Posting links to this kind of stuff only makes it worse. Summarize or post the article here, with attribution, if you actually think it is worth comment.

    aaand a short question..: :)

How does it work with audiobooks?
Say I listen to an audiobook, can I swich and listen to another song for a while, and then return to the audiobook and start where I last stopped? Or do I have to listen to the whole book at once?

It was an original disk. The problem with your thread though is that I cannot get into my mac osx partition, im currently stuck on the windows side. At this point all I want to do is get back into the mac side and delete my windows side until I get back to school with the rest of my mac mini disks.

My brother lost his original iPhone 4 last week, and the insurance replaced it.

I just bought a white iPhone (even though I have a black one & hate white). The reason is due to its greatly improved new antenna. The white is thicker due to the improved antenna.

When compared to the brand new black one my brother got, the white is far better. The difference is so dramatic, nothings been changed on the Antennagate black phone. That's a total shame.

I was shocked, yet happy I could finally buy an iPhone 4 I'm happy with. One that has a good useable phone that doesn't drop calls or break up.

My black Speck Pixel Skin case fits good since it was a bit loose on my black one.

I'm so relieved and happy to have a great iPhone now.

I just wish it was today, since I'm going to be out all day with doctor appointments and other errands. Tomorrow I don't think there's anything to keep me away from the Internet and TV spoilers. Well, I do have several hours of downloaded TV shows to catch up on. Guess I could spend the day with Front Row. :-)

We have a small graphic design firm... four designers working on Illustrator and InDesign files... files might be 200MB to 1GB, generally. Really varies. Might be a brochure, logo design, packaging, whatever.

We have a Mac Mini Server running Snow Leopard Server, attached to a Promise RAID. All our files are on this unit. (Backed up regularly, yada yada.) We have a gigabit network, so it's plenty fast to move files around, etc...

    here's the issue/question...

Our designers generally work on the files "on the server" rather than copy them down to their drives to work. They think it's faster and more efficient, and reduces the chances of extra files being created, or deleting the wrong one, or issues with "which version" is the most current, etc. Copying up and down files takes time, they say.

I argue (I'm the tech guy, not a designer) that it's asking for trouble. That working "off the server" could create file corruption if there's a network issue, or if there's an issue with a computer that's working on the file, or whathaveyou. I also think it's slow, even though it's a fast network. Any time saved "copying the file up or down" is going to be lost waiting for files to open and save and render and whatnot. I think it's very INefficient. All around, I just think it's a bad idea.

Whether it's a good idea, or a bad idea, or a standard practice, well, what say you? And if you think it's asking for trouble, what's the best way to deal with stuff like this? A different server? Is there good software that allows for making sure you're working on the current file, etc...? What are other graphic design firms doing in this regard?

If this isn't the best place for the post, let me know and I'll see if I can have it moved.

    Thanks in advance.

My thought was that as the the other footage is DVPro NTSC converting it to DV NTSC would be transcoding to a closely matching format. But it didn't seem to help any...

NTSC DV is 4:1:1, which is terrible on its own, and doubley terrible if the originating H.264 clips were SD, as you'd be going from 4:2:0 to 4:1:1, so effectively ending up with 4:1:0.

Is this what you're seeing? You need to be exact about when exactly it starts looking like garbage.

An iSurface would be pretty cool, like a giant ipad touchscreen to lay on your dining table - kinda piggybacking on the microsoft surface functionality but.. of course small =P and more beautiful.

You're pretty pissed ... rather beyond pissed? And people tell me to relax!

It is the holiday season, I would expect much less than a **** ton of bundles.

I just can't understand why they can't sell things separately and then give you a discount when you buy the two things together (since that's basically what they're doing with Kinect bundles and game bundles).

So now I'm going to have to wait a week for a stand-alone 4gb, or cough up another $100 for things that I don't even want so that I can have something to do over my winter break. I honestly don't remember all of this bundle crap existing when I bought my 360 ~4 years ago, you had the option of buying the system alone and that was it.

So yeah I am pissed off.

I had the same heating issues while playing WoW on my 15" Late-2009 MBP. I began looking at coolers and decided on the Rain Design mStand. While not an active cooler, it does lift the notebook off the desk surface, providing better air circulation. The aluminum design also helps dissipate heat. As an added bonus, it looks great too.

    :apple:

Meh, i dont want to have to deal with an external keyboard

    I suggest the NZXT cooler.

The reviews on that seem to be mixed between it actually cooling things down and the usb ports working?

I have a 1080p TV, 46" and plan to use it as a computer to show people how to use iPhoto and iMovie and such. I had my MacBook Air hooked up, and it worked fine as a second monitor but there was minor lag at times. When the Air was hooked up to my Apple 24" LED there is no lag at all so I was wondering if the screen size has anything to do with it.

Doubt screen size has anything to do with it - I'm running three displays off my Mini without any lag (2 at 1920x1080 aka 1080p and one at 1920x1200).

Do you have the Mac Mini plugged into a port labeled HDMI/DVI that is perhaps handled differently by the TV? I'm thinking image processing on the TV might be the cause of the lag, but I'm not 100% sure.
