I'm also on the fence about ordering my imac with or without the ssd option.
(forgive my lack of computer knowledge here....): I understand in basic terms, that having the OS and Apps installed on the ssd has many advantages over hhd, such as allowing the imac to boot up the OS and apps faster.
Question:
Lets take the iPhoto app as an example . . . If iPhoto is installed onto the ssd, it should/will launch the app faster than if it was installed onto the hdd - okay, I get that.
Now, once iPhoto has opened/launched, will it operate any faster or smoother if iPhoto is installed on a ssd vs. if it was on a hdd?

The only thing i would worry about is if Nintendo pulls a M$ and when/if they release online games that they won't let you online because you modified your hardware.

anything but that monitor. I think that would be a baaaaaaaaaaad move for apple. Unless they could manage to have it be really inexpensive, nobody will buy it. Sure, it is a huge monitor, but is it affordable to the average consumer (probably not :rolleyes: ).

First off, calm down.
Secondly, do you have anything on the HDD that you need backed up?
If you do not, just put in your original discs that came with the computer and hold down the C key while starting up to boot off the disc. Then, use Disk Utility once the Installer loads to format your HDD and reinstall your OS.

has your 7800GT got a dual slot cooler on it? the Quadro does (its the same cooler as the pc 7900GTX had) and also the same as the pc 7800GTX.. i think the 7800gt had that sheity single half lenth cooler on it. if thats the case, just grab a aftermarket cooler and be done with it.
seriously stay away from that 6600le its a piece of junk...
then again, if you dont play any games at all, nor use the gpu then sure i huess why not, go for the 6600...

This always confuses me. Why do they call it a newsreader? Why not an RSS reader? This does nothing more than keep track of and read RSS feeds. It's not significantly different/better than the RSS capability built into Safari or Firefox.
Maybe I'm a purist (or a snob), but to me a "newsreader" is an application used to read the newsgroups (the Usenet). Panic's Unison application is a newsreader. It connects to newsgroup servers and allows me to read posts and download attachments.
Am I being too picky?

Just to alleviate everyone's concerns, this issue is NOT present in the Panther preview. I tried setting a 9-character password, and the login window did not take the 8-character version.

This is simply not accurate I'm afraid.
The 27" ACD works absolutely fine with the Apple OEM 5770 upgrade card with MDP, also with the 5870. After all, why would Apple sell these graphic cards if they didn't work with their only display? Further, my 5870 and 27" ACD get along like a house on fire. Note that you have to buy the Apple cards, not just a standard PC card like you seem to be implying
The first generation of ATI 5-series cards for PC didn't actually didn't follow the DisplayPort port specifications properly, and do have compatability issues with Apple products. That being said, your absolutely right peskaa, the issues were fixed with Apple OEM cards (but ppl who want to throw in any PC card just beware the 5- series cards are hit and miss on compatibility).

Is there a dis-mounting process on the PC? Is it possible that your Mac thinks that the drive is still being accessed by the PC, and therefore refuses to let you access the files, because they are 'in use'?

I don't think there any any improvements. I can make the issue happen at will. It never drops to 'no service' but always drops bars. Not really an issue to me, but I wouldn't be hopeful in getting a 'fixed' iP4.
