1. Go to the nearest store and buy an external hard drive that you connect to your Macintosh. Then set up Time Machine to make backups to that hard drive. (To set it up: Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Time Machine). First, this will give you a backup of everything that is on your Macintosh which will save you lots of trouble should your Macintosh ever die. And second, it lets you transfer _everything_ on your Macintosh onto your new computer.
2. When you buy the new Mac, when you start it the first time, it will ask you whether you want to transfer data from another computer. At that point, you follow the instructions on the screen and tell it that you want to transfer data from a Time Machine backup. You plug in the external drive, and some time later the new computer contains absolutely everything that was on the old computer. Including music.
3. Never, ever rely on an iPod to hold your music. The first place your music belongs is the iTunes library on your computer. The next place is the backup disk. Always assume that music on your iPod is temporary and could disappear any time.

I never bought one because at the time I didn't have the money for it but I'm now considering buying one just to have it (sounds odd perhaps but why not; it's a beautiful piece of equipment and why not save them for posterity?).
I am not very familiar with Tiger and the earlier OSs and therefore wanted to run Leopard on it. I've read posts here and also articles at Lowendmac about Leopard performance on the 12" PB. It seems that performance would be "ok", at least for less intensive tasks (like video editing and encoding).
So I'm wondering what upgrades (well, beyond adding RAM) are available for the 12" PB (processors, logic boards, harddrives etc) these days?

Updated to version 1-1: Final correction. I repositioned the computer display to a better location which I wanted to do for quite a while and I also raised the level of the grids on the floor a little bit cause they were a tad too low.
Now the 3 variants that I did (I did an Apple an Atari and also an Amiga version of this design with different colors and illumination) have the computer display in the same position. These are the updated links (well actually only the direct link to the file in Mediafire changes):

Looks like your drive may be failing.. I had this same problem with a 500gb Western Digital external hard drive about a year ago. It just didn't mount all of the sudden and then quit working all-together. You still should try to reformat the drive to see if that fixes the problem though.
If you need any of the files on the external drive you are going to have to use a utility such as Data Rescue 3 or something similar and then try to reformat the drive. If not, go ahead and click erase and try to reformat it and see if it works.

We were experiencing some sluggishness yesterday and briefly took the front page down in order to reboot the server right at the time you reported the downtime. That seemed to have perked things up, but obviously we want to avoid having to reboot things. :)

i myself had this problem once in the past, i fixed it by using a small amount of superglue on the edges of the processor, just enough so it sticks firmly in place but not too much that it blocks the thermal paste between the heatsink and processor
