Most wallpaper sites will have 1680x1050 as an option, as most current 17 inch monitors use that resolution. InterfaceLIFT (http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper_beta/) is a site I usually go to. You could try HDWallpapers (http://www.hdwallpapers.net) too. ;)

Here's an interesting tidbit: just before the doors opened, one member of the security team started barking at people to put their cameras and cellphones away. He was even chasing down pedestrians on the other side of the street. Not sure what that B.S. was about, but as a photographer, I take exception to that sort of overreach. It's a public street, and last time I checked, the Apple store is not a post office, military base, or other government facility.
This was a rent a cop and not an Apple employee, right?
Maybe it was an audition to work at the Pentagon? ;-)

There have been Wii's they just sell out fast :o
Pre-orders don't always work out either. We had one down from September, system launched in December and we had no idea where on the queue we were. So we luckily snatched one from my local Argos (they get 8-15 units every Thursday night) after putting an order on Wednesday.
I've noticed they start selling out as soon as a new game hits. I managed to get one in January, a friend of mine got his not long after. Then out came a few games and they were sold out again :( my girlfriend accumulated 3 of them... then out popped a few more games.
Good luck in hunting for one. There's a lot of demand for that little white box :)
I really hope the shortage doesn't last much longer, this may just end up being the longest one in history for game consoles :/
I believe the 360 was sold out here for 3 months, the PSP for 1 month. Wii is up to 5, certainly a modern day record.

I am very surprised that your parents policy does not cover yours- if you are family and living there it should, but again every policy is different. So you might see if it is cheaper to just add your stuff to their policy if their company allows it.

In OS X you can literally control just about any aspect of the the operating system via terminal. I would argue that an expert *nix user has more "unrestricted control" over OS X than an expert windows user can have under XP.

HTC 16 Megapixel handset incoming? (http://www.t3.com/news/htc-16-megapixel-windows-phone-7-handset-incoming?=55525)
Hopefully they wont ruin it by putting cheap, knock-off lenses in.
Megapixel myth.
Even a point'n'shoot camera will yield better results than a cell phone gimmick. Unless all I wanted to do was take illicit snapshots of the price of canned corn in a grocery store's tinned vegetables aisle... grocery stores say they don't like people taking pictures of things in their stores...

This is the first time I've heard of such a thing...this is horrible
I hope this doesn't sound stupid, but can't they just demolish this house and rebuild a new one on the same plot? I know it'll be expensive...I am just asking :o
The article said the house was 108 years old. It is probably protected by some historical society (or would become so once they applied for demolition). Then they would have to spend a lot more than $61,000 fighting those people in court.

Hmm... After it's done with the first CD, and it's rebooting, the CD is still in there, right? I believe that the mac continues to boot off the first CD until the second is needed. The HD isn't booted from until the installation has finished. Once it's done with the first CD, and restarts, try holding down the "C" key to ensure it doesn't try and boot from the HD.
Well, after it reboots it is booting to the CD but it comes up with the intial install screen all over again.
What is weird is the last thing it does before it reboots is the system optimization which I think is the very last thing that happens before the install is complete. But it is still on the first CD.
Thanks for your response, I wasn't expecting any responses till after the Macworld hysteria calmed down.

1. This might be a stupid question, but does GarageBand allow me to compose music "from scratch"?
Kind of like asking "Does a piano allow you to compose music from scratch?" You can play anything you like in GB and record the notes and later look at them on a staff.
2. What's the difference between GarageBand and Logic Pro?
Apple has three products, GB, Logic Express, and Logic Pro.
All three use the same engiine but Logic exposes a much more complex user interface and also comes with many more software instruments.
Stay with garage band until you have some specific reason to upgrade to Logic. Logic will directly import your GB projects so you don't loose any work.
3. Do I need a keyboard or whatever in order to start composing on Mac?
You can used what Apple calls "musical typing" to play music on the computer "qwerty" keyboard. The asdf row acts like the white keys and the qwerty row like black keys. It is clumsy and slow but some people get good at it. Buy a "real" music keyboard and it will be much better. I think also you can mouse click on a picture of a music keyboard but that is just awful.
But you want to play drums. Why not get a MIDI Drum controller and play on a simulated rubber drum head. I know you can play drums on a keyboard but I'd bet it feels un-natural if you are a drummer
4. Currently I only have GarageBand (which comes bundled within iLife). I did a search on Google and apparently GarageBand Jam Pack 4 comes with percussion which includes taiko drums. I haven't been able to find any reviews or videos on this, so could anyone tell me how good it is?
Most of the instruments on jam pack are just "ok". Good enough for your own composing but not good enogh for profesional recording. But there are third party speccialized software instruments that work. Jam Packs are the best bang per buck because you get so many on the disc. but always there is something better.
This is one example of a 3rd party "plug-in" I think there are a few others. http://www.ninevoltaudio.com/products/taiko.html
Put use the jam pack first
EDIT: The link about says you need "Kontakt" (full version) to use it. That is getting expensive but if you need that quality then you need it.

I'd love to get this, but I'm getting into the habit of buying old franchises too much on my DS. All I've bought so far is two Mario games, a Sonic game, and Trauma Centre, the latter being the game not from a franchise I've played before (and I didn't even enjoy it that much).
But, if its cheap enough, I'll probably get it. And, by coincidence, Theme Park is the first game I ever played on a Mac :D

It seems weird that the trial version contains advertisements. I would think the trial would be the same as the full version. Anyway, did you get it to work with FaceTime on 4.3.2? I haven't been able to get it to work since updating, and was wondering if I was alone with this problem.
I actually never actually used it while I had it installed, was a just in case thing as my gf recently bought an iPad 2 plus I'm still on 4.3.1 as I have LockInfo setup just how I want it and can't be bothered with the upgrade right now.

I've made up my mind on the basic 13" pro. I was going to buy it on June 5th, but I don't really think I should do that now. If possible I would like to get the machine with Lion installed already. Should I wait for WWDC? Its 4 days long so I guess I could wait it out, but would they release it the day of announcement, or would it be in a couple of weeks afterwards? I know this is all speculation, but I appreciate you input
Thanks :)
Thanks :)

Another option if you do not want to go with a USB player or worry about Audio out from a receiver or AV Processor is the NAD PP3i ($199). There are a few others out there, but they are creeping into the $500+ price range. I am looking at this unit for myself so I can plug my turntable into it, use a USB cable to connect to my Mac Mini and rip the albums with the NAD software ($25 extra). It helps with tagging the songs, removing clicks and pops, and exports to various audio files including ALAC, which is what I use.

iMacs have never had HDMI ports.
you just need the right adapter: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10428&cs_id=1042802&p_id=5311&seq=1&format=2
Thank you the bottom of the page says Thunderbolt compatible also but doesn't say how.

I can't read japanese, the but the translation seems to make sense..
basically new Superdrive/Bluetooth Powerbooks coming... no change in the case. The same as what has previously been reported... so no real new info.
They don't have a known track record... we'll see in the coming weeks I suppose.
